Michelle Obama shot down a new book’s portrayal of her as a sharp-elbowed presence in the White House who has clashed with her husband’s staff, saying Wednesday that she’s sick of being portrayed as “some angry black woman.”
The First Lady told “CBS This Morning” that she hasn’t read Jodi Kantor’s “The Obamas,” released Tuesday, and wasn’t planning to pick it up any time soon.
“I never read these books,” she told host Gayle King. “So I’ve just gotten in the habit of not reading other people’s impressions of people.”
Addressing the book’s claim that she had occasionally meddled in President Obama’s policy decisions, she told King that she is one of her husband’s “biggest confidants” but shot down “this notion that I sit in meetings” and call the shots.
“I am not an expert on most of the issues he is dealing with on a daily basis,” she said.
The First Lady also took on the book’s claim that she had clashed with her husband’s former chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, who is now the mayor of Chicago, saying that the two “never had a cross word.”
…”That’s why I don’t read these books,” she said. “Because it’s a game in so many ways … Who can write about how I feel? Who?”
